Notes: Also in the Torres Straight Protection Zone. Accidentally introduced into Australia during the 1870's gold rush in northern Australia. It spread out to colonize the northern half of Australia. After World War II there was a concerted effort to eradicate this mosquito, which resulted in being found only in far north Queensland and the Torres straight Protection Zone. However since the late 1990's this mosquito has once again starting to spread out in Australia. Northern Territory was given a Federal Grant to eradicate this mosquito from Tennant Creek, NT and it is hoped this will be completed by the end of 2005.
