Anomalies
We would like to draw the user's attention to some entries which may appear to be, but are not, errors in this compilation. Maleuterpes spinipes Blackburn (Curculionidae) bears two common names: 'spinelegged citrus weevil' and 'dicky rice weevil'. The latter common name is misleading in that the insect has never been recorded as associated with rice crops. The name, however, is a well-known one and has been recorded here in view of its frequent use in the literature. Henosepilachna vigintioctopunctata (Fabricius) (Coccinellidae) is listed as having the common names 'twenty-six spotted potato ladybird' while Henosepilachna vigintisexpunctata (Boisduval) is listed as 'twenty-eight spotted potato ladybird'. It appears that the original describers of these two species (Fabricius and Boisduval, respectively) miscounted the spots.
